In Laurens, South Carolina, USA, a passerby was out for a walk when they spotted a thin, sick dog chained up outside a house lying motionless on the ground. The dog’s thin frame and condition made it hard to believe that the animal was still alive. It did appear to be breathing, albeit slowly and softly, so they called animal control.

Luckily, the officers quickly arrived, freed the dog from the chains, and rushed him to a local vet. Volunteers from an animal rescue organization named Rescue Dogs Rocks learned of the shocking condition of the dog and came to check as well. They called the poor dog Champ, whom they immediately transferred to a nearby clinic for intensive medical care.

Champ was in a horrible state and needed an immediate blood transfusion. Champ was too anemic to the point where his gums were white. Champ also had no muscle mass and probably wouldn’t have live for another 12 hours. While Champ’s future remains uncertain, the rescuers wondered about his past.

The Laurens Country Sheriff’s Office investigated Champ’s story. Based on the Sheriff’s report, they found out that six months ago, Champ was left in the care of his original owner’s ex-girlfriend named Elizabeth James. It was Elizabeth who allegedly left Champ without food or water. Elizabeth was arrested for animal cruelty.

Miraculously, Champ’s condition got better every day, and he was rocking his physical therapy. He was doing so well that you would never know that he once suffered unimaginable cruelty. All the staff even say that Champ has a fantastic character. He never held any grudge in his heart and is so grateful and happy for every attention, love, and support he got.

After staying at the vet for three weeks, Champ was finally strong and healthy enough to continue his recovery at a foster home. When Champ met his foster family and new home, he funnily made himself at home immediately. He was rolling around in the backyard and playing with other foster dogs like he had been there for weeks.

Since Champ’s story went viral, many adoption applications from all over the country came for him. But his forever family will have to wait when Champ is ready, and he will soon be ready to share the love, care, and happiness in his heart.
